World-renowned trumpeter and bandleader Ray Vega grew up immersed in the heart of two vibrant New York City music scenes- Jazz and Salsa- learning these musical styles with some of the great legends. As an international jazz innovator, Ray leads the Ray Vega Quartet and Ray Vega Band. Locally, he is a senior lecturer at the University of Vermont where he teaches jazz history and improvisation, and is host of Vermont Public's ever popular, Friday Night Jazz. Through his talk and demonstration, Ray will focus on the creative process of spontaneous composition.
