About this Event

Discover the literary side of iconic artist Robert Rauschenberg with I Don't Think About Being Great: Selected Writings, the first-ever collection of the artist's written works. Artists Jonathan Rajewski and Amna Asghar join Francine Snyder, Director of Archives at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and editor, for an unforgettable conversation. Together, they will delve into Rauschenberg’s most provocative and personal writings, sharing their unique perspectives and reflecting on the themes that continue to shape the artistic world.

The 100 texts compiled in I Don't Think About Being Great (Yale University Press, 2025) showcase Rauschenberg's gift for prose and his deep connection to language. Spanning subjects from environmental concerns to the freedom of artistic expression, the texts are filled with humor, insight, and intellectual lyricism, and are illustrated with reproductions in his own distinctive handwriting.

The event will also feature copies of the book available for purchase and signing.
