Rasa String Quartet's "Soundtrack to a Nightmare"

This Halloween-inspired program follows the arc of a classic horror movie – from eerie atmospheres and unsettling beauty to blood-chilling terror and otherworldly transformation.

Featuring Schubert’s feverish Death and the Maiden, Mozart’s ominous Dissonance Quartet, haunting tracks from Radiohead, and iconic Halloween hits, this spine-tingling journey blends classical drama, cinematic suspense, and supernatural flair!

Thursday, October 23, at 7:00 PM (Doors 6:30 PM)

$20 for Mechanics’ Hall Members, $25 for general admission, $35 for reserved seating. There is a $5 surcharge on the day of the performance.

ABOUT THE MUSICIANS

The Boston-based explores the musical space where classical and folk traditions intersect and influence one another. They are winners of the 2022 AEMC Competition in Italy, the 2021 Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition, the 2020 Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition, and were the 2022-23 ensemble in residence at Phillips Exeter Academy. Notable performances include the 2023 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, Celebrity Series of Boston, Rockport Music, and the Highlands Cashiers Chamber Music Festival, among others. The quartet can be found collaborating with the preeminent folk musicians of today, performing at venues and festivals around the country, and participating in artistic and educational residencies at various institutions. By exploring the connection between music and storytelling at the heart of folk traditions, Rasa String Quartet delivers fresh, engaging performances that blend classical elegance with folk whimsy, celebrate global traditions, and elevate lesser-known composers.

PARKING & TRANSPORTATION

Mechanics’ Hall is located at 519 Congress Street. Our main entrance is between Loquat Shop and the Art Mart. The Greater Portland Metro’s Congress & Casco Street Stop is directly in front of our building, served by route 1, 7, 8, and 9B.

Parking is available at the , which has entrances on Casco and Brown Street, with a rate of $5 per hour. Metered street parking is available on Congress, Casco, Cumberland, Free Street, and other nearby streets. Free hourly street parking is available between Parris and Alder Street.
