About this Event

The Rare Book Collector's Conference will debut in Washington DC with a week dedicated to rare books, ephemera and other collectibles.

The event will open with an opening night drinks and canapes reception on Friday night.

The weekend will feature site visits to the Booth Family Center for Special Collections at Georgetown University and the Hillwood Estate, where patrons will experience an exclusive behind the scenes tour and showcase of special materials with curators. On Saturday, patrons will enjoy a private lunch at the historic Hillwood Estate.

On Saturday evening, Platinum and Gold ticket holders will be join the speakers for an exclusive dinner at Georgetown institution La Chaumiere.

There will be a series of talks and panels on rare book collecting on Saturday and Sunday.

Featured speakers include:

Kermit Roosevelt is the David Berger Professor for the Administration of Justice at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. Roosevelt works in a diverse range of fields, focusing on constitutional law and conflict of laws. He has published scholarly books in both fields. Conflict of Laws (Foundation Press, 2010) offers an accessible analytical overview of conflicts. The Myth of Judicial Activism: Making Sense of Supreme Court Decisions (Yale, 2006) sets out standards by which citizens can determine whether the Supreme Court is abusing its authority to interpret the Constitution. He has published articles in the Virginia Law Review, the Michigan Law Review, and the Columbia Law Review, among others. He is also the author of two novels, In the Shadow of the Law (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2005) and Allegiance (Regan Arts, 2015). In 2014, he was selected by the American Law Institute as the Reporter for the Third Restatement of Conflict of Laws.

Michael Weintraub is a New York-based bookseller who specializes in Modern Illustrated Books, Architecture, Photography, Decorative Arts and The Performing Arts.

Mike Cotter has been in the rare books business in some form or fashion for nearly twenty years. The stock at Back in Time is officially classified as General Antiquarian, but the truth of the matter is that the stock is a smattering of historical pieces that have found their way beyond the gates of Endor. Mike has two great loves in his professional life - American History & Pop Culture of the late 20th Century. He will talk at the conference about collecting the 80s.

Chuck Roberts is the proprietor of Wonder Book. He owns over six million books, many of which are being sold online or in his three brick-and-mortar stores in Maryland.

Wendy Orent is an Atlanta-based book collector, science writer and anthropologist specialising in health and disease. She is the author of Plague: The Mysterious Past and Terrifying Future of the World’s Most Dangerous Disease (2012).

Gerald Peary is professor emeritus of film studies at Suffolk University, Boston, film critic for Arts Fuse, and editor of Quentin Tarantino: Interviews; Quentin Tarantino: Interviews, Revised and Updated; John Ford: Interviews; and Samuel Fuller: Interviews, all published by University Press of Mississippi.

Angelo J. Cifaldi is President and Managing Director of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A., leading all aspects of the firm’s practice and operations. He is also co-chair of the firm’s Mass Tort/Class Action and Cannabis Law groups. He is collector of the works of Mark Twain.
