Rant and Release Live is back on Friday 4 December: an evening of everything you love from me online, but in real life, with a bar.
THE RANT
This time I'm joined by the brilliant Salma El Wardany, the previous host of the BBC London breakfast show, writer, and one of the sharpest voices I know. We'll be getting into the things that deserve a proper public ranting, and if you've ever screamed "RETHINK YOUR LIFE CHOICES" at your phone, you already know how this goes.
Expect chaos. Expect honesty. Expect to feel extremely seen.
THE RELEASE
Then I do what I actually came here to do: sing. My millennial throwback covers are back, the dance floor bangers of your youth turned into something that might make you cry in a church, which is frankly the correct place to do it.
And joining us on stage: the sensational Nate James. If you know, you know. If you don't, come and find out why soul fans have loved this man for twenty years. There may also be a duet. There will definitely be a duet.
And that might not be everything. Watch this space.
Can I be honest for a moment? I spend a lot of time talking to a camera, and then you lot turn up in real life with your faces and your stories and your love, and it gladdens my heart every time. Standing on that stage singing to a room full of people who found me through a rant on the internet is genuinely a dream come true. Meeting you afterwards is my favourite part of the whole night. She rants. She sings. She sold out her first live show in April and she's ready for another go.
Sheyi Martins-Allen is the voice behind Rant and Release, the Friday rants that start light, turn political, and end with Dear Sheyi, the agony aunt strand. Live, the rants come with a band and a musical number or two, because she was a singer long before she was a ranter.
On 4 December she's back on stage. Same room, bigger guests, same amount of shouting.
Nate James
Multi-award-winning British soul artist, three MOBO nominations, Urban Music Award winner for Best Soul Artist, and the voice behind Set the Tone, one of the defining UK soul records of its era, now twenty years old and still getting played at every wedding you've been to.
He's headlined sold-out runs at the Jazz Café, played the Montreal Jazz Festival to 200,000 people, and shared stages with Amy Winehouse, Chaka Khan, John Legend and Beverley Knight. When he's not singing he's DJing, with residencies at Soho House and a stint as Rihanna's personal DJ, which is not a sentence many people get to have in their bio.
His new album, The Man I Am, is on the way. On 4 December he's bringing that voice to a church in Acton. And Sheyi has persudaded him to sing with her....
Salma El-Wardany
Author, Poet, Speaker, and Broadcaster. She is the author of These Impossible Things, which was released to global critical acclaim in June 2022. For the last six years she has presented on BBC Radio London, most recently, The Breakfast Show. She has recently stepped down to focus on writing her second novel, and the TV adaptation of her first novel, and her podcast Sunday Cervix (releasing October 2026). Salma is also a two-time TEDx speaker, a global keynote speaker, and writes for publications such as The i, HuffPost, and Red Magazine. Salma’s work centers on feminism and gender, revolving around female stories to bring the often ignored realities of women into the spotlight.
