About this Event

Morris County Historical Society is pleased to partner with local historians and history organizations to present a Morris County Walking Tour Series that celebrates the area’s rich and diverse past . From April through October, join us for nearly 40 guided walking tours that explore almost two dozen communities throughout Morris County, with topics ranging from unique historic districts, downtowns, and neighborhoods to local industries that shaped the landscape, and the individuals who left a lasting impact.

The Friends (Quaker) families that settled Morris County starting in the 1740s were pioneers. As pioneers, they had to be self-sufficient, building their own homes, supplying their own food and providing a place to bury the dead. The latter need was the primary reason why, in 1758, the Mendham/Randolph Friends Preparative Meeting purchased the acre of land on which the Randolph Friends Cemetery is located. The Cemetery has today about 112 marked graves, the earliest of which is 1843. However, since the early Quakers did not believe in marking burials, we know that there are many more burials on the site. This tour of the Friends or Quaker Cemetery will convey what we know about its history and the lives of some of the people buried there, including Randolph Township’s namesake, Hartshorn Fitz Randolph.

FREE. Rain/Shine. Pre-registration required.
