About this Event
With family roots in South Texas, Ramona Martinez's music is a unique blend of Honky Tonk and traditional Mexican styles that has been described as “Mexi-tonk.” She was recently recognized by Wide Open Country as one of the "15 Latino Artists Shaping Country Music". Her vocals are powerful and emotional, hearkening back to the classic country and western style music of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. More than once, she has been compared to the legendary Patsy Cline.
Ramona has performed throughout the United States, appearing at several Americana festivals, including Red Wing Roots, Rooster Walk, Bristol Rhythm & Roots and the Richmond Folk Festival. She has opened for touring artists like Margo Cilker, Colby Acuff, Willi Carlisle, Redd Volkaert, Joshua Hedley, Donna the Buffalo, and Kashus Culpepper. Her recently released album "Ramona and the Holy Smokes" has already garnered high praise: "All tasty honky-tonk blended with early Country seasoning".
Fiddler Brendan Boylan of the Richmond, VA based country/folk rock group Wilson Springs Hotel will join Ramona in her Richmond Folk Music performance. The show will include originals from Ramona & the Holy Smokes repertoire, traditional mariachi, and a few Irish tunes as well!
