Our team from Ramapo College Investigative Genetic Genealogy Center will explain how investigative genetic genealogy (IGG) is used to identify John and Jane Doe unidentified remains, as well as barriers within this process.
In the American Southwest, identification using IGG is more difficult because many John and Jane Does are of Latin American descent. Latin Americans are an underrepresented population in the DNA databases used for IGG. Thus, their identification is inhibited by fewer and more distant DNA relatives than their Western European counterparts.
