About this Event
Flingin Pots is excited to share low-firing process that is inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku involves removing pottery from a kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colors in glazes and clay bodies and produces brilliant metallic blues, purples, coppers, red and yellows Note: Rake ware is not foodsafe
Cost: $45
Date: Sunday September 19
Times: 6-8pm
What happens at the workshop? Raku demo, trash can and combustible demo, horse hair demo. Students pick out, label and paint pots. Each Student will paint 1 pre-made pot and horse hair or white crackle a 2nd pot to be fire in the Raku kiln. (suggested )
Next we Fire up students pots to 1860* and add them to the post firing reduction chambers. Lastly, clean up and TAKE POTS HOME!
That’s right! Raku is the only ceramic firing process that you take your pots home the same night after they cool for 30 mins ?
