Raku Pottery - Staten Island

This class involves multiple dates and instructions - please read carefully!

Discover the ancient Japanese art of RAKU pottery firing, where vibrant glazes and intense heat create stunning, one-of-a-kind masterpieces and leaves it all into the hands of the process. Seeing your piece removed from the fiery outdoor kiln and witnessing the unique, unpredictable results firsthand is part of the fun. Dive into the magic of RAKU- it’s pottery like you’ve never seen before!

Class instructions and dates:

JUNE 29th from 1-3pm - please come pick up your clay and spend 2 hours making your handbuilt piece (optional to stay and make- but you must pick up your clay). You're welcome to leave your finished piece at Staten Island Makerspace to dry OR bring it home to finish as long as you return it to Staten Island Makerspace by July 10th. Email [email protected] to coordinate drop off as needed.

JULY 14th 5pm- 9pm is the fun part! Join us across the street in Maker Park for hours of glazing and firing your handbuilt pieces in our outdoor kiln! There's smoke, fire and it's a very traditional and rustic process. You'll leave with your own unique, vibrant and beautiful piece to take home.

Kiddos 12 and up are welcome as long as they sign up with an adult.

$150 members // $172 non-members

$25 material fee

Membership will be verified upon ticket purchase.

Refund Policy:

If we cancel, we will refund you in full and notify you. You may cancel and get a full refund up to seven days before the class. After that, refunds are contingent on us being able to fill your seat. Under no circumstances do we offer refunds to individuals who cancel on the same day.
