The 13th Virginia, known as the West Augusta Regiment, was the only Continental army unit raised entirely west of the mountains. The story of its recruitment from the men of the western parts of Virginia and Pennsylvania and the story of their service in the east and the west reflect the importance of this region and its inhabitants in the Revolutionary era.
David P. Ervin is an infantry veteran of the Iraq War who went on to study at West Virginia University, earning a BA in early American history. He has written numerous works in creative nonfiction, historical scholarship, and fiction. He has also served as an editor for various publications.
