MD Biodiversity Project is a non-profit focused on cataloging all the wild things in Maryland, mapping them at a fine scale and permanently archiving the records and associated media. They then put that data to use for maximum benefit, supporting science, conservation, and education. They work closely with the DNR as well as numerous other conservation partner groups. The Chesapeake Bay Trust's mission is to engage and empower diverse groups to take actions that enrich natural resources and local communities of the Chesapeake Bay region.
Rainbow snakes are rare and endangered beauties, found swimming or burrowing around streams and swamps in a few areas along the lower Potomac River. These non-venomous snakes primarily feed on eels, so their survival depends upon good water quality- just like ours.
