About this Event
Creative, social and spooky and hopefully something to match your Halloween vibes this autumn! Whether your family would prefer a calmer crafting session, noisy disco-dancing or a bit of both, we'd love you to join us at Duncan Place Community Hub to celebrate Halloween in your own way.
We'll provide space and resources to make some Halloween-themed crafts, lead a storytelling session to help us connect with nature and a disco finale to shake it all off!
We'd love to see your Halloween dress-up and no pressure if you'd rather not!
It's an opportunity for you and your young humans to meet other LGBTQ+ families indoors for a chance to chat, connect and get involved in your community. Jules and the team will welcome you for part or all of the event - whatever works best for your family.
Event programme:
- Halloween crafts with chill vibes (start-time 3pm for around 1 hour)
- Nic n Nature Storytelling session with volunteer & organiser of community group Queer by Nature (start-time 4pm for around 15-20 mins)
- Halloween Disco (start-time 4.30pm for around 30 mins)
A bit about terminology and who is welcome
We use the terms 'LGBTQ+ families' and 'Rainbow Families', as we recognise that along with LGBTQ+ parents and carers , who need a safe space to socialise and come together, their kids do too and some of those kids may also identify as LGBTQ+.
We also recognise that not all non-heterosexual and cisgender terms are explicitly represented by 'LGBTQ+' but we want you to know that we welcome the entire diversity of our LGBTQ+ community including non-binary, pansexual, queer, intersex, asexual people and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.
We would also like to explicitly state that Bi+ and Pan people are welcome (and celebrated!) at our Rainbow Families events, as we know how hard it is to be seen and understood, in the often hetero-cis dominant world of parenting and family support.
We want to ensure that all LGBTQ+ family members feel safe, validated and respected in our spaces and hopefully experience the joy and connection of meeting like-minded folk.
Registration
Spaces are limited so we need you to register in advance. The capacity of this event is 50 people to ensure social distancing can be maintained.
Please complete the Eventbrite form and include any access needs your family would like us to be aware of. You will receive a confirmation and Jules will email attendees directly with more information, before the event.
We will also be sending some information ahead of the event, to all attendees, about our expectations in regards to limiting the risk of COVID. Along with this being an outdoor event, we will be asking families to be mindful of certain things, to help keep our event as COVID-safe as possible.
Safe space
Please read our Safe Spaces Commitment before attending our events, so that you are familiar with our expectations of how we can create a safe and welcoming space for everybody.
COVID-19
This event forms part of our phased return to in-person event delivery in the Edinburgh Community Programme, with limited numbers and COVID-19 safety measures still in place to help make our events as accessible and safe as they need to be for our community. We are particularly keen to ensure we're making it possible for those who have recently been isolating, and those have been at particular risk to COVID, to begin returning to in-person events in a supportive way.
All necessary steps have been taken to reduce the risk of COVID, however that risk can never be reduced to zero. Any event may be cancelled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances relating to coronavirus, or if Scottish Government guidance changes.
We will use the email address provided to contact you regarding any Covid-related concerns after the event.
The venue
We will meet at LGBT Health and Wellbeing's Edinburgh base at Duncan Place Community Hub. More information about venue access after registration.
Duncan Place has accessible toilets for all genders, changing facilities and refreshments will be available from the handy kitchen in the venue.
Not sure when youโll arrive?
We know how hard it can be to attend at specific times, so please feel welcome to drop by at any point between 10am and 1pm. There is a doorbell to use when you arrive and we'll keep a volunteer close to the entrance to let you in.
