Rainbow Acres Community Farm is a rural safe space for everyone run by an LGBTQIA couple that focuses on community farming so people can enjoy nature, produce quality food. They also strive to help our community understand the environmental benefits of building healthy soil. The farm is home to dozens of animals and several crops that need power and water to survive, just like we do.
After only 6 months of being on the farm the Ice Storm hit last year and the couple, their animals, and their farm lost power and water. They just got water 3 months ago and are still WITHOUT POWER! The energy company legally cannot fix their power pole because it is considered personal property since it is not the property of the power company.
Prior to living on the farm, they had lived in Eugene for years while they searched for a way to access land. After almost a decade they finally found**this space where they felt they could make their dreams a reality. They spent every cent on the move and because of legal codes and the condition of the infrastructure on the land it was incredibly difficult to secure insurance that would cover the farm.
Between the two of them, they have 5 jobs and are working 7 days a week from morning 'til night but are still living paycheck to paycheck and have been unable to save up enough to fix their power issues.
When we had our fire at the old location, they reached out to us to make sure we were OK and asked if they could do anything to help.
During this time of great upheaval in our country, we must stick together and support each other. They are a part of our community and they need help. This is where Nelson's in the Whit comes in!
We will be holding a fundraiser on March 15th from 6pm-9pm. We will be hosting a live DJ to play music, hosting a silent auction, and providing delicious food and drink for everyone. The live music will have a $10 suggested donation that will 100% go to the farm.
