Ragasutra: An Immersive Journey into Indian Classical with Sitar Virtuoso Hindol Deb
Tabla accompaniment : Shankh Lahiri
Embark on an extraordinary musical odyssey with Hindol Deb, a sitarist dedicated to the expressive depth and timeless beauty of the Indian classical tradition. His Ragasutra concert is not merely a performance; it is a profound journey into the heart of traditional Raga music, an invitation to rediscover inner tranquility amidst an increasingly demanding world.
Indian classical music unfolds gradually, revealing a rich world of subtle tonal shades, microtonal nuances, and expressive improvisation. Each Raga carries its own distinct mood and emotional landscape, inviting listeners into a state of heightened awareness and attentive listening. In an age of constant distraction, this centuries-old art form offers a rare space for contemplation, inner stillness, and connection.
With each delicate pluck and soaring melody, Hindol Deb unveils the soul of the Raga. He masterfully navigates its intricate contours, weaving improvisations and rhythmic dialogues that speak directly to the Soul.
Beyond the intricate world of Ragas, Hindol Deb also lends his voice to the soulful narratives of Bengal, presenting traditional devotional and folk songs that echo the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Joined by the rhythmic brilliance of internationally acclaimed tabla artist Shankh Lahiri, who has performed at major festivals across India, Europe and North America, this musical dialogue brings together two accomplished artists in a celebration of the richness and spontaneity of Indian classical music where tradition meets transcendent artistry.

.............................ABOUT THE ARTISTS........................
SHANKH LAHIRI – www.shankhandfriends.com
Shankh has established himself as a highly creative and innovative concert artist in both the classical and experimental world music spheres. From an early age, he received intensive training in both vocal music and Tabla from his father Shri Rabindranath Lahiri and later under Pandit Sandeep Dev. Presently, Shankh is a senior disciple of Pandit Nayan Ghosh.
He has accompanied and toured with many distinguished musicians, including Pandit Jasraj, Shujaat Khan, Shahid Parvez, Arati Ankalikar, Pandit Nayan Ghosh (sitar), Pandit Mukul Shivputra (vocal), Rakesh Chaurasia, kanjira master Selva Ganesh, and many others.
Shankh has performed at major festivals throughout India and internationally, including the LearnQuest Music Festival in Boston, the Raga Live Festival, the Chicago Jazz Festival, Tropical Heatwave Festival, Gasparilla Music Festival, Lights on Tampa Festival, India Fest in Richmond, and many more.

HINDOL DEB – www.hindoldeb.com
Hindol was introduced to Indian classical music at the age of five by his father, Sri Panchanan Sardar, and later trained under distinguished gurus such as Pandit Santosh Bannerji and Pandit Deepak Choudhury all of them belonging to the Rampur-Maihar Gharana, eventually developing his own unique musical identity and sound. He completed a Master’s degree in Jazz at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
Indian classical music being one of the few musical traditions that fully embraces microtonal intervals through continuous glides between notes, Hindol makes extensive use of these possibilities. He creates intricate melodic landscapes through various ragas and rhythmic structures. Combining exceptional technical skill with deep knowledge of ragas and their psychoacoustic effects, he weaves them into performances that offer audiences a distinctive and immersive musical experience.
Alongside his work in Indian classical music, Hindol explores diverse musical traditions including jazz, Nordic, medieval European, Flamenco, Greek and Arabic music. He has initiated and led numerous intercultural projects such as Ragasutra, North Light, Essence of Duality, Fountainhead, and Samita, bringing together artists from different musical backgrounds. His collaborations include renowned artists such as Marina Abramović, Markus Stockhausen, Renaud Garcia-Fons, and Giorgis Xylouris, as well as distinguished dancers including Uma Dogra and Daksha Mashruwala.
