At 7.30 PM on March 27 there will be a public artist talk with Teatro del Lemming, which is free for anyone to participate in/listen to.
The performance is for seven spectators at a time that puts the direct and proxemic relationship with the spectator at the centre, as is typical of Lemming’s poetics. The Trojan women, as in Euripides the only survivors of the massacre, are about to board the ships of the victorious Achaeans, they will be dragged like slaves away from their homeland. Happiness is lost, only its poignant and bitter memory remains among the rubble. The hands in the void only hold the hands of other unfortunate companions. The historical period we are living in makes us feel like Achaeans launched to the destruction of cities and at the same time like Trojans adrift. Our face increasingly takes on the face of the conqueror together with the one of the defeated. We play both roles, alternately, in the wheel of history. Today, however, they seem to be given simultaneously. We are the destroyers of the planet and together, precisely for this reason, the victims of this destruction. In the terrible condition of migrants lies both the origin and the destiny of our civilization.
Teatro del Lemming is an experimental theatre company founded in 1987 by Massimo Munaro and Martino Ferrari. They are recognised as one of the leading companies of the new Italian and European theatre. “THE SPECTATOR’S THEATRE” is the poetics originated and developed by Teatro del Lemming over the past 40 years. Within this framework they question the relation between actor and spectator. During the last sixteen years their research has focused on myth. Through the myth, the actors build bridges between them and the spectators, crossing all conventional barriers and borders and thereby create a real human relation.

Föreställningen är för sju åskådare per föreställning som sätter den direkta och nära relationen till åskådaren i centrum, vilket är typiskt för Lemmings poetik. De trojanska kvinnorna, som i Euripides är de enda överlevande från massakern, är på väg att gå ombord de segerrika Achaernas skepp, för att släpas bort som slavar från sitt hemland. All glädje är förlorad, endast dess bittra minne finns kvar bland spillrorna. Den historiska period vi idag genomlever får oss att känna oss som de krigslystna Achaerna, och samtidigt som trojaner på drift. Vårt ansikte efterliknar alltmer erövrarens ansikte likväl som de besegrades. Vi spelar båda rollerna, växelvis, i historiens hjul. Idag verkar de dock avspeglas simultant. Vi är vår planets förstörare och tillsammans, just av denna anledning, offren för denna förstörelse. I migranternas fruktansvärda tillstånd ligger både ursprunget och ödet för vår civilisation.

Genom myten bygger skådespelarna broar mellan sig själva och åskådarna. Genom att bryta alla konventionella teatrala barriärer ämnar de skapa en verklig mänsklig relation.

RADIX is a platform where citizens, artists and scholars can re-examine the practice of theatre as radical. Since 2022 it has hosted a series of public lectures, talks and live performances on radicality in theatre as that which adhered an origin, or root – from the Latin radix. Theatre is here to be understood as the arena in which performance takes place. In this special edition of RADIX focus will be placed on performances onstage that find intimate ties with the concept of prophecy.
RADIX takes place March 22-29, with daily performances. Each evening is followed by a public talk with the audience that is optional to participate in/listen to. The program is subject to change, keep updated by checking the website.
RADIX is curated by Josephine Gray and Anmar Taha, artistic directors of IBODIES, and in co-production with Atalante.
