???????? F????? ???????’? ?????? ???????????? ???????? “?????? ?????” ?? ?.?. ??????? - a powerful drama about fairness and courage is based on the true story of female laborers who were poisoned and killed by their factory’s radium-based paint.
The Roaring Twenties brought economic growth and new discoveries including radium, an element discovered by Madame Curie that was heralded as a cure for cancer. Luminous watches were the latest rage – until the 14-to-15-year-old girls who painted them with the factory’s radium-based paint began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Based on real events, the play depicts Grace Fryer, a watch dial painter who finds herself battling for her day in court, despite fear that her campaign for justice will backfire.
Led by director Meg Caudill, the cast includes upper-level students in the world-class Walden Conservatory program. The student cast is supported by StageOne’s professional production team.
Written with warmth and humor, “Radium Girls” is a story about fairness and courage. Though the events depicted take place a century ago, the struggles of class inequality are still present today. With its inventive staging and heartfelt performances, “Radium Girls” illuminates the struggles and triumphs of those who dare to fight for justice and encourages viewers to consider how they might take action to create change.
Performances of “Radium Girls” will be January 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. and January 25 at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased for $20 at StageOne.org or at the door.
