About this Event

"I prefer radio to TV because the pictures are better" - Alistair Cooke

Top Hat Supply for Journeys is excited to offer "Radio Play!" as an after school program over 4 weeks. Every Monday from 4pm-6pm we will uncover new, fun ways to listen and develop our own voice via radio performance in our audio production studio. Limited to 8 for each session.

Week 1: We imagine. We familiarize ourselves with the radio play format, dive into characters and audition for parts. Our "troupes" will be divided into two groups depending on which play they choose out of two options available.

Week 2: We record. We dive into the creating, acting out and embellishing our characters, working with sound effects, having fun with our voices.

Week 3: We polish. We listen to the initial edit, record remaining lines or re-record. We have fun creating transitional sounds for in-between moments. And there are of course behind the scenes bloopers to enjoy.

Week 4: We premiere. We listen together as a group, give feedback to one another and just enjoy hearing their own voices performing a character they've come to know and possibly even identify with. For the last 45 minutes parents are invited in to hear the plays. Participants will also get the recording to share after as well.

Our goal is for our kids to have fun, learn to love hearing their own voices, learn about audio production and deepen their relationship with listening.

Please pack a snack and water bottle for your child. While we will break up our art making time with some movement, we do ask your child can be respectful being in an art studio space. We appreciate prompt pickup so that we can focus on preparation and clean up.

This workshop will be led by Kelly Garry, a local professional sound designer & producer along with Darcie Shively, co-creator of Top Hat Supply for Journeys. The studio is a non-profit experimental art studio and your support of workshops like these help us keep the creative community alive in Boulder, especially on East Pearl. Thank you!
