Radio Laria is going to end the year featuring two inspiring women: Micaela Sahhar and Simone Pereira. Micaela is an Australian-Palestinian writer of non-fiction, and poetry who sometimes blurs the lines between these styles with her experimental prose. Simone Pereira is a poignant and pensive poet who is well known on the Melbourne poetry scene for sharing her insightful poems and for listening to others. We are also looking forward to the open mic where poets, story-tellers and writers of all kinds are invited to express themselves. Doors open 7pm and the live poetry kicks off at 7:30.
Our venue Open Studio (204 High St, 3070) is a Northcote institution for culturally amazing gigs.
For the open mic it’s sign up on the night, and a 5-minute limit (arriving early is recommended for sign up). The audience is very supportive and we welcome new readers. Men are welcome to share on the open mic, but please be mindful that this is a night to promote women’s poetry and we ask that you behave respectfully. Come along and join this warm, vibrant poetry community and don’t forget about Open Studio’s yummy crepes!
Location: Open Studio (204 High St, Northcote) is on the 86 tram route, or if you want to get the train it’s a ten minute walk from Northcote Station (Mernda line) or fifteen minute walk from Westgarth Station (Hurstbridge Line).
Accessibility: Front door is wheelchair accessible, but it is a little narrow. Wheelchair accessible to performance space. Toilets are up some stairs and very narrow.
