A night of radical folk mongering at Brightons finest folk-roots clubDoors 7:30pm, first band on at 8pm.
ROBB JOHNSON & THE IRREGULAR TRIO
Robb’s widely recognised as one of the UK’s finest songwriters. Notorious for his prolific, poetic, sensitive and politically charged works, he enjoys playing pubs, clubs, the occasional festival, art centres, benefits & picket lines. Before Brexit he toured regularly in Europe, & he has also visited the USA a couple of times. Tonight he graces us with the full sounding trio!
“An English original”, (Robin Denselow, the Guardian)
“a national treasure” (Mike Harding)
“one of this country’s most important songwriters (no argument!)” (fROOTS).
“one of the best songwriters this country has produced in many a year… the appellation National Treasure is often over-used, but in Robb’s case it is entirely appropriate" (St Edith’s Folk)
DRYADIC
Queer alt-folk agitators Dryadic have built a reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling contemporary folk-roots bands, known for their rousing live shows, unapologetically feminist songwriting, and rich, string-led arrangements. Dryadic’s live shows are a feast for the senses, blending stomping protest songs and travelling folk tales with dreamy, epic ballads. With raw energy, candid lyrics, and infectious singalong hooks. Their new album “Permission To Speak”, is a powerful collection of their most personal and confident work yet. Building their run of critically acclaimed singles, it boldly stands for resistance, community, love & authenticity.
“"Permission To Speak" gives indie folk, experimental pop, and socially
aware songwriting fans a new, emotionally smart point of view and a
deeply human soundtrack to your own life.” - Earmilk
“One of those rare albums that throws the door wide open and steps
forward with an unflinching and incandescent energy. Luminous, unafraid
and utterly unforgettable.” - Lock Magazine
"An amazing dynamic folk band, bringing feminist protest through the
dreamier side of music.” - BBC Introducing
“Refreshingly bold” - Fame Magazine
“Ageless, as if Joan Baez suddenly plugged in and had tea with Florence
Welch and sparked a revolution.” - Lost In The Manor
“A true masterpiece of indie-folk” - Indie Dock Music
BATS FEET
Worthing’s best crypto-social ukebilly protest folk-goth collective.
