About this Event
Radical Ahjumma: Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s DICTEE
Radical Ahjumma, a feminist collective of writers from the Korean diaspora, will discuss Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s DICTEE, a genre-challenging ode to grief, memory, and love that centers women from myth, religion, history and Cha’s own ancestors. First published in 1982, DICTEE has emerged as a canonical work of feminist and Asian American studies with its themes of displacement, exile, and colonial violence that still resonate today.
Though not required, we would advise attendees to have read DICTEE before joining us. Both longtime and new readers of DICTEE are welcome.
Radical Ahjumma’s Nancy Jooyoun Kim, Margaret Juhae Lee and S. Isabel Choi will be moderating the event.
This is a community gathering to kick off BAMPFA’s retrospective, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha: Multiple Offerings, on view from January 24 to April 19.
