About this Event
Facilitated by Dr. Marion Malcome, MSW, LCSW, Ph.D and Brit Holmberg MSW, LCSW, MDiv, co-creators of 'Becoming an Antiracist Social Worker' and 'Racial Equity and Ethics' workshops.
Marion and Brit have been empowering clinicians and organizations to become more anti-racist since 2013. Together, they have almost 3 decades of combined experience in the MH field including the areas of community mental health, private practice, research, and college wellness centers. Their workshops are always engaging, challenging, and worthwhile. We have updated the workshop to address our current reality and provide avenues for resistance and collective action.
Workshop Description and Learning Objectives: An interactive, in-person workshop to help healthcare leaders and practitioners apply concepts of racial equity and anti-racism to everyday situations (clinical, ethical, organizational). Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how institutionalized racism impacts both organizational and clinical spaces, and the important role of practitioners in transforming such spaces. Using case studies, facilitators will educate participants on how to center the experiences and needs of Black, Indigenous and other People of Color (BIPOC) using an inclusive, anti-racist framework. Participants will learn practical interventions and tools to respond effectively to these contexts with integrity, authenticity, and sensitivity while striving for racial equity.
Objective 1: Equip participants to identify ways that institutional racism impacts their practice (agency, colleagues, and clients) and help them understand how working to oppose and undo institutional racism is an ethical imperative
Objective 2: Learn a framework to promote racial equity and inclusion when dealing with challenging dynamics involving clients, colleagues, and working across agencies/departments.
Objective 3: Develop tools to integrate racial equity and anti-racism into organizational policies and practices with the goal of de-centering whiteness and focusing on the needs of those most marginalized by systemic oppression.
Objective 4: Empower participants to practice in ethical ways that counteract institutional racism in their agency, as well as the larger community.
To be fully prepared and able to engage in the virtual workshop participants will be required to review some written materials. We will send these out approximately 2 weeks before the live workshop w/ instructions.
