Race the District

In partnership with Events DC, we’re bringing a unique go-kart racing experience, powered by K1 Speed, the world’s premier go-kart racing operator.

Race the District returns October 9–12, transforming Union Market’s parking lot into a high-energy outdoor racetrack. The thrill goes beyond the track this year with a major headline moment: electronic duo Louis The Child will bring a live block party performance to 5th Street (adjacent to Union Market) on Saturday, October 11, presented by Nü Androids.

The weekend will be packed with go-karting excitement for all ages (minimum height of 58” is required), from seasoned racers to complete beginners. Each 15-minute race will accommodate six drivers, perfect for creating fun memories with family and friends. Join us for the races and stay for live music, awesome entertainment and a variety of delicious eats from Union Market District’s favorite restaurants and bars.

Celebrating its first anniversary in DC, F1 Arcade is marking the occasion with open sim racing all weekend for General Admission Race the District ticket holders. It’s the ultimate race weekend, on the streets and on the virtual tracks.

Plus, enjoy a live DJ Friday through Sunday and an exclusive Race the District menu featuring specialty cocktails from Netflix’s Drink Masters mixologist LP O’Brien. Cheers!

Rounding out the weekend, on Sunday, October 12, Songbyrd will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a free block party on 5th Street (adjacent to Union Market) featuring live performances, adding even more music and community energy.

All event attendees, including spectators, must register and sign . Any attendees under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian complete their waiver form.

Individuals who are pregnant or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol will not be permitted to race. The height minimum is 58″, height maximum is 79″; and weight maximum is 300 lbs. Drivers will be measured and must be able to safely operate all elements of the kart.

Department of Transportation-approved helmets will be provided and must be worn while operating a go-kart. All racers must wear closed-toe shoes, keep long hair tied back, and refrain from wearing anything too loose fitting.

Inclement weather conditions, including but not limited to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and high winds, create unsafe conditions for go-kart drivers. Races may be suspended or canceled. If races are canceled, tickets will be refunded. Updates regarding any weather related changes will be communicated on the Union Market website and to registered attendees via email.

Union Market and K1 Speed reserve the right to deny any attendee from operating a go-kart at their discretion.
