Picture this - it’s August 29th, 2014, the start of the last weekend before the school year begins. You’ve got your converse laced up tight as you walk into Northlands Grounds with 5 of your BFFs. It’s hot, it’s warm, it’s packed, but that doesn’t matter because you’re with all your BFFs and over the course of 3 days you’re about to see Descendants, Tegan and Sara, Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Death Cab for Cutie, Rise Against, The Airborne Toxic Event, Stars, Foster the People, and well basically every band that soundtracked the past few years of your teenagehood. A new local(ish) band called July Talk take the stage - they are electric and blow you away, you can’t wait to see where they’re at in 10 years. Your feet ache from standing in a parking lot all day but it’s so fuckjng worth it when Arctic Monkeys come on and play Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High, you don’t even like the new album that much but hearing their new songs live is actually kinda like 10x better than on the album.
You turn to your best friend and say “I can’t believe this is happening in Edmonton, AB, this is basically the Warped Tour of indie rock.”
