About this Event

Since 2021, artist Marta Blair has created large-scale community tape installations. Her projects intend to lighten up daily routines and change local perception of the urban landscape by bringing color and large pleasant forms to unexpected spaces, recreating memories and emotional connections with our roots. Mahicantuck is a participatory installation that will be created during one weekend with community members and the general public around Battery Park City. The project is based on the Lenape name for the Hudson River: Mahicantuk, or “river that flows two ways.” It highlights the fact that this waterway—more than a river—is a tidal estuary, emphasizing the mobility of life and multiple ways to flow and interact.

Presented in partnership with Battery Park City Authority
