Acclaimed Blues Guitarist, Singer & Songwriter QUINN SULLIVAN comes back to Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club following the release of his fifth acclaimed album, 'Salvation'. “Players like Quinn come along once in a lifetime,” says Buddy Guy.
“I want to make music that moves people. That’s the definition of success to me,” says Quinn Sullivan.
A rare artist who's always sounded older than his years, Quinn has been touring the world since he was 11-years-old, playing storied venues such as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl and RFK Stadium, as well as India’s Mahindra Blues Festival, Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits Music Festival, and many others.
Quinn has also shared the stage with his hero and mentor Buddy Guy, B.B. King, as well as Beth Hart, Carlos Santana, and many more. Additionally, Quinn’s performance experience includes appearances on leading national television programs such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan and The Oprah Winfrey Show, to name a few.
This Massachusetts native has taken the abundant skills of his youth and now, as a young adult, is letting them blossom and steer him into new directions of artistry and creativity.
“I want to stay true to where I come from, and go from there,” says Sullivan. “The artists that inspire me to do that are always hungry for the new. They never repeat themselves. They just grow and become more unique — and that’s what I aim to do as an artist.”
Having developed genuinely jaw-dropping skills as a guitar player, Sullivan’s more recent learning curve has been with pen and paper. Over the years, he’s integrated his exceptional guitar talent into hooky song craft, in the spirit of artists such as Marcus King, Gary Clark Jr., the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and John Mayer. Quinn’s recent association with Trouble No More—the new ensemble sanctioned by the Allman Brothers to carry on their live-performance legacy—has also contributed to the depth and maturity evident in his latest work. Since the release of 2017’s ‘MIDNIGHT HIGHWAY’, Sullivan has evolved into the singer-songwriter genre while effectively highlighting his guitar mastery.
Quinn Sullivan's latest album, 'Salvation' was produced by John Fields (Jonas Brothers, Pink, Har Mar Superstar), and co-written with Fields and Kevin Bowe (Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Etta James) in Minneapolis. The album was written while processing the passing of his mother, tracked in a feverishly-inspired two weeks.
“My mom was my guiding light on this record,” the New Bedford, Massachusetts-based artist says. “I’m not a religious person, but salvation, to me, means saving yourself from a traumatic experience. That’s what this album did for me.”
'Salvation' is an artistic milestone that has been part of a larger journey in artistic autonomy and reclamation. “This record taught me not to be afraid to be who I am,” Quinn says. “My mother’s strength seeped through me, and gave me the confidence to sit down and make the best record I could make.”
