About this Event
Queering Joyce / Queer Joyce: A Queer Theory for Everyday Life literary discussion.
Come join us for a vibrant exploration of the queer themes in the works of James Joyce! This in-person event will be held at 52 Lant St, where we'll delve into the LGBTQ+ interpretations of Joyce's writing. Engage in thought-provoking discussions, connect with fellow literature enthusiasts, and celebrate the diverse perspectives that make Joyce's work so timeless. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to delve into the intersection of queerness and Joyce's literary genius!
The event will also act as an introduction to Joyce's work for those who are unfamiliar with it. There will be short readings and discussions around how the great twentieth century modernist novelist can be queerly reinterpreted for a new generation of readers.
We will discover the queer undercurrents that flow through the short stories in Dubliners. How the colour green is often a giveaway for a queer subtext in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. We will see how Ulysses might be read as an unrequited gay romcom! And, as for Finnegans Wake, well it is 600 pages of queerness.
Come and discuss all this at Book 28 library for this post Bloomsday discussion. The event will be led by Andy Harvey, a Book 28 volunteer and a published author on Joyce.
