Queer To Tell: A Storytelling Series
About this Event
We are taking it back to the days of MTV, Tamagotchis, Tumblr, or even as recent as the Real Housewives and KPOP for a "culture" edition of at Ginger's Bar in Park Slope! The show will be hosted by our favorite drag zaddy, Andie Sleaze, and feature 5 LGBTQIA+ storytellers sharing their stories about the culture that made them. The show will run about an hour and a half, with a 10 minute intermission.
Theme: The CULTURE THAT MADE ME
"What is the culture that made you say culture was for you?" -- The TITULAR question from two of our fave gay uncles Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. This show is for recalling those nostalgic tales about the super stars, Nintendo games, fan-fic pages, Vines, cult Broadway classics, Housewives, Tumblr pages, and all of the other niche pieces of media that made you who are - whether it be donning a towel-turban and a blanket train trying to embody the likes of Joan Crawford or Gloria Swanson, to cutting class and trying to make a Vine; making an MTV-inspired garage band with the neighborhood kids, to writing Harry and Ron fan-fic, underneath the covers with a giant flashlight. Culture made Queer people and Queer people made culture.
Seating begins at 7:00. Show starts at 7:30.
THE BAR IS CASH ONLY.
ABOUT THE SERIES:
Queer To Tell is a NYC born national storytelling series that features LGBTQIA+ storytellers, is hosted by a local drag/queer performance artist, and takes place at Queer-owned/affirming spaces across the country. The series takes place in non-traditional performance spaces to create a space that feels like an intimate gathering audiences are happening upon rather than a theatrical performance. Each show has a different theme that allows for storytellers to share the universal experiences we as a community share but also the nuances of our different identities. This series was established to document the myriad of stories that exist within the LGBTQIA+ community, facilitate and encourage community building, and claim space in places that are actively celebrating and protecting us.
