About this Event
Join us at m.henry in Andersonville on Sunday April 6th from 6-9PM for the next Queer Soup Night Chicago! Four Queer Chicago chefs will sling delicious soup for sliding scale donations ($5-$20). A special cocktail menu of fun + delicious bevs will also be served.
With the Trump Administration's executive orders taking aim at the rights and dignity of transgender youth, this QSN will benefit , an affirming summer camp specifically for trans and gender-expansive kids located in southern Illinois. All donations from this event will go directly towards the financial sponsorship of campers from Chicago.
Featured QSN chefs include JD Voss (m.henry owner!), Jasmine Sheth, and Chez T+K (Thea Rice and Kaylie Engel):
Jasmine Sheth, a James Beard Foundation grant recipient, is the founder and chef behind Tasting India, a queer-owned spice company known for its handcrafted, micro-batch spice blends and Indian Chili Oil. Tasting India’s mission is to break down stereotypes surrounding Indian cuisine and highlight the versatility of spices across global culinary traditions.
Tasting India celebrates the diverse flavors of India’s regional cuisines, sharing the untold stories of the country’s rich food heritage through its innovative blends. Jasmine’s vision is to showcase the complexity and beauty of Indian spices, shedding light on the often-overlooked culinary narratives of a nation with 1.5 billion people.
Raised in a family of strong, creative women, Jasmine’s passion for food was ignited by childhood memories of cooking with her aunts and learning the art of spices from her mother. She believes that food is a powerful tool for fostering connection and building community, and aims to use Tasting India to inspire curiosity about the diverse and vibrant food cultures of India.
JD Voss is a masculine of center, gender fluid, she/he/they, ever evolving tender-hearted cowboy. A successful Restaurateur and Chef, JD loves to use food and drink to build community and create safe spaces that leave people feeling warm-all-over, in a tight hugged kind of way. They owned and operated Jamber Wine Pub in San Francisco for 10 years and recently moved back home to Chicago, where they are the chef and owner of Chicago's favorite staple breakfast spot, m.henry. JD is an athlete, thrill seeker, dog papa, dad joke teller and bucket list adventurer who is blood and chosen family centered. They thrive in and crave traveling to learn new cultures and see how people live and eat all over the world. Ultimately, JD is passionate about sharing moments with people on this journey called life, that are the simple somethings that mean everything.
Chez T+K is a passion project by Thea Rice (she/her) and Kaylie Engel (she/her). Having met working in an all-day French cafe located in Chicago, IL, the intersection of French cuisine and Midwestern ingredients became the foundation of their culinary pursuits. Since 2022, Chez T+K has hosted seasonal dinner parties, pop-ups at neighborhood restaurants, and catered local Chicago events. Thea and Kaylie are both queer women who have been living in Chicago for a collective 20 years. Professionally, they are both engaged in health care and social work. The two of them share passion for community organizing, the Chicago service industry, and perfecting the art of hosting.
This QSN is all-ages and open to queers + our allies. Allies are encouraged to donate at the higher end of the sliding scale, if possible. Donations will be collected at the event, but RSVPs are required for soup planning purposes. m.henry is wheelchair accessible with entry on the street level. We can't wait to see you there!
