Queer Moves: Dance Workshop

This dance workshop invites anyone of a marginalised gender or no gender (i.e. trans and cis women, trans men, gender non-confirming and non-binary people) to explore our creativity in a caring space.
Through fun and playful workshops, you are invited to find out what dance means to you. All sessions include check-ins, warm-ups and cool-downs and creative tasks and/or fun choreography.

We take a gentle approach to dancing in this workshop, allowing you to go at your pace and move in your own way. It's all about having a good time dancing!
There is no prior experience required. This is a great opportunity for you to try something new, boost your confidence in dance, explore your creativity and boogie. Together, we aim to create an appreciative, caring atmosphere for everyone to feel comfortable in.

About the facilitator:

This workshop is led by Elena Alava Hilgert (she/they), a London-based community dance artist and graduate from the MA Dance Leadership and Community Practice.

Elena’s interest lies in creating accessible dance spaces for different communities, specifically the LGBTQ+ community and young people.

During the workshop, Elena encourages you to dance in a way that feels comfortable and safe in your body, whether that's standing, seated or a mixture.

They're always happy to find adaptations where wanted. In the workshop, we'll be using a lot of your own movement rather than set movement.

We will be taking regular breaks and you are always welcome to take additional breaks when needed or step out.

As Elena is facilitating on her own, please note that their ability to give 1:1 support is limited.

To keep our community safe, we ask that all visitors do not visit the Centre if they are feeling unwell including headache, fever, sore throat, consistent cough, chills and unusual spots, scabs or ulcers.

You can wear a mask if you feel more comfortable. We also have masks and hand sanitiser available at the Centre.
