Queer-Led Mushroom Forage
About this Event
We will be foraging for mushrooms, and occasional lichens and plants, in the Asheville area. Some will be edible, some medicinal, and some just pretty to look at! A great intro course to the mushrooms of WNC.
On Queer-specific mushroom tours, we will explore the relationship between mushrooms and Queerness, adding in a touch of anthropology.
Tours will be in Bent Creek at Rice Pinnacle Trailhead, or within 35 minutes of Asheville. If necessary, changes in location will be sent out about a week prior to the tour.

*Things to bring: water, snacks, two foraging bags (one for edibles, one for others/unknowns--paper and cloth are great), and clothing that's comfortable for a jaunt through the woods.
*The walks are rain or shine, barring severe thunderstorms, so please come prepared for the weather! If the tour needs to be cancelled, tickets will be refunded. There may be poison ivy and ticks on these trails, so please keep that in mind when choosing clothing-- and do a tick check at the end!

~Open Foray
Wednesday, August 5th, 5:15-7:30pm
Join us for an open weekday evening foray! Come with mushroom questions and a basket. We'll practice mushroom ID. The tour will leave the trailhead at a slow pace to allow for people getting off of work to join a little after 5:15.
~A Musical Mushroom Adventure
Saturday, August 15th, 10:30am-1:00pm.
A mushroom foray in which we will improvise songs, chant chants, and dance the mushroom dance. Songs are a great way to learn and remember mushrooms-- I'll be playing (and improvising!) some silly ones. Great for all ages, including kids 6+!
