Queer Latin Movie Night🌈

Después de un año de crear una linda comunidad , finalmente nos atrevemos a organizar nuestro primer Queer Latin Movie Night. La idea es que esto se convierta en un encuentro mensual para nuestra comunidad Queer/Cuir Latine y sus aliades... ya nos hacía falta un espacio para chismear un rato.

Este evento se realizará en Kind Space (400 Cooper St.), un espacio inclusivo para las personas de la comunidad LGBTQ en Ottawa.

El lugar es accesible y las puertas se abren a las 6:00 pm. Comenzaremos a juntarnos a las 6:30 pm y la película empezará alrededor de las 7:00 pm. (Tranqui, puedes unirte en cualquier momento de la noche. Lo importante es llegar con curiosidad, una mente abierta y ganas de conocer gente nueva).

• 6:30 – 7:15 Comidita y chismecito
• 7:00 – 8:30 Ver la película
• 8:30 – 9:15 Hablar un ratito más (de la película y de la vida)

🌮 Sobre la comida :

• Este es un evento gratuito, pero cualquier aporte cuenta:
• Si está en tus posibilidades, puedes hacer un aporte económico (sugerido de $5 a $15 CAD) para ayudarnos a cubrir los insumos. Puedes hacer tu aporte por e-Transfer a [email protected] o llevar efectivo el día del evento.
• También puedes traer algo para compartir (empanadas, tamales, arepas, pupusas, ensaladas, alfajores, tequeños, buñuelos, etc.). En Kind Space tenemos microondas, hervidor eléctrico y un pequeño horno para calentar.
• Nadie está obligado a traer comida Y dinero, contribuye con lo que esté a tu alcance.

Este es un evento impulsado por Queer Latines/Latines Ottawa y está sostenido en comunidad. Todes aquí somos voluntaries queriendo crear una espacio, realmente lo hacemos con mucho amor. Si puedes ayudar el día del evento (ya sea con la comida, el montaje o la limpieza al final), siempre lo agradeceremos.

Anunciaremos la película de cada mes con anticipación. Si tienes sugerencias, ideas o muchas ganas de ver algo en específico para las siguientes sesiones, escríbenos. Escuchamos y no juzgamos.

• Idioma: Inglés con subtítulos en español. (Hay muuucho Spanglish en esta)

Empezamos con una peli bien ligerita; es una película biográfica que sigue la historia real de Saúl Armendáriz, un luchador amateur abiertamente gay de El Paso, Texas, que cruza la frontera hacia Ciudad Juárez para competir en la lucha libre profesional. Cansado de interpretar personajes menores que siempre están destinados a perder, Saúl decide crear a "Cassandro", un personaje dentro de la categoría de los exóticos (luchadores que actúan con elementos afeminados y trajes vistosos).

Queer Latin Movie Night🌈

After a year of building a lovely community, we are finally hosting our very first Queer Latin Movie Night! The idea is for this to become a monthly gathering for our Queer/Cuir Latine community and allies... we were really missing a space to have chismecito time.

This event will take place at Kind Space (400 Cooper St.), an inclusive space for the LGBTQ community in Ottawa.

The venue is accessible, and doors open at 6:00 pm. We will start gathering at 6:00 pm, and the movie will begin around 7:00 pm. (Don't worry, you can join at any point in the evening. The main thing is to show up with curiosity, an open mind, and a desire to meet new people).

• 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Food and social time
• 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM: Movie screening
• 8:30 PM – 9:15 PM: Post-movie chat (about the film and life)
  

This is a free event, but any contribution helps:

• If you are able, you can make a financial donation (suggested $5 to $15 CAD) to help us cover costs. You can send your donation via e-Transfer to [email protected] or bring cash the day of the event.
• You can also bring something to share (empanadas, tamales, arepas, pupusas, salads, alfajores, tequeños, buñuelos, etc.). At Kind Space, we have a microwave, electric kettle, and a small toaster oven to heat up food.
• Nobody is required to bring food AND money—contribute with whatever is within your reach.
  

This event is powered by Queer Latines / Latines Ottawa and sustained by the community. Everyone here is a volunteer working with lots of love to build this space. If you can help out on the day of the event (whether with food, setup, or cleanup at the end), we would truly appreciate it!

We are starting off with a light and uplifting film. This biographical drama follows the true story of Saúl Armendáriz, an openly gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, Texas, who crosses the border into Ciudad Juárez to compete in professional lucha libre. Tired of playing minor characters always destined to lose, Saúl decides to create "Cassandro," a character in the exóticos category (wrestlers who perform in drag and wear glamorous costumes).
