Come get brave, flirt badly, and have fun doing it. A playful, low-pressure workshop for queers ready to shoot their shot.
About this Event

Bisexual Killjoy, Hometown Arcade, and the Bisexual Resource Center invite you to a special Queer Flirting Workshop for queer people of all genders, ages 21 and older. Bisexual and pansexual people are especially encouraged to attend. And no one will be asked to prove that they are queer enough to belong!

Bi+ people say they’re bad at flirting. Queer people say they’re too awkward to function. Pretty much everyone says they don’t know how to put themselves out there.

That’s bullshit.

Flirting isn’t an innate talent reserved for the charming. It’s a skill that anyone can learn.

In this two-hour workshop, Bisexual Killjoy co-host Bailey Merlin will help you become a more confident, courageous flirt through candid conversation, practical advice, demonstrations, and low-pressure practice with other queer people. You’ll learn how to signal interest, recognize when someone may be interested in you, start a conversation, handle rejection, and embrace the beautiful indignity of making a fool of yourself. After all, what does love do but make fools of us all?

This workshop is for anyone who has ever failed to speak to a pretty person in a bookstore, attempted to communicate desire through side-eyed glances, or spent six months wondering whether “I love your earrings” was a compliment or a come-on.

Together, we’re taking your flirting game from nonexistent to confident enough to shoot your shot.

The space will be playful, supportive, and consent-centered. People of every gender and relationship status are welcome, whether you’re gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, queer, questioning, or still figuring out which words feel right. No one will be pressured to flirt, disclose personal information, or participate in an exercise that makes them uncomfortable. Come alone or bring a friend.

And if you need help getting into the fray, Bailey will be there to take you under her wing... perhaps even help you talk to the cutie of your dreams! She would like to be thanked in a future wedding toast, commitment ceremony, housewarming, Subaru co-signing, and/or cat adoption, so she is invested in your success.

Co-hosted by Bisexual Killjoy and the Bisexual Resource Center, we're excited to welcome you to Hometown Arcade, which has a variety of fabulous beers, wine, cocktails, and NA options. If you’re hungry, they have a partnership with Tellus & The Satellite Bar. Feel free to come early or grab a bite during the workshop.

Who can come?
Queer people over the age of 21! If you identify as queer, you should be here.

The event description says “singles.” I’m polyamorous. Am I allowed to attend
Yes! We’re feeding the algorithm here, and people click on “single.” Polyam folks are more than welcome.

What can I expect from this workshop?
Show up on time and check in to make a name tag with your name and pronouns. You will also select a beaded necklace to indicate your comfort level with physical touch: green (a friendly touch is welcome), yellow (a friendly touch is welcome with verbal consent), and red (no touch and no request to touch). Once we’re checked in, Bailey will tell us all about flirting, demonstrate with participants, and answer questions for about an hour before we shift into the practical side of the workshop with speed dating components (you talk to someone for 5 minutes before moving onto the next). By practicing, you’ll learn the basics of flirting and build your confidence for the real world!

Why is someone taking my picture? Do they want me as a professional model?
Someone will grab photos at the events for our social media page. If you don’t want to be photographed or posted on our page, please let us know before the event starts.

I’m sober–am I still welcome?
Absolutely. Delicious non-alcoholic options are available if you are so inclined. That being said, make choices that are best for you!

How much are tickets?
Tickets are $15. All profits go to supporting the Bisexual Resource Center.
