Honor those who paved the way this Pride with a panel comprised of five queer elders who will share their tales, led by Gerber/Hart staff.
About this Event

Gerber/Hart is a LGBTQ+ library and archives located in the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. Founded in 1981, Gerber/Hart is one of the largest repositories of LGBTQ+ content in the world. Gerber/Hart focuses on collecting, preserving, and making accessible the LGBTQ history and culture of Chicago and the Midwest.

This June, Gerber/Hart, along with The LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Dialogue Project brings five queer elders to Dorothy to share their history with us - alongside artifacts and physical archival works from the library's archive.

A partnership between The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Center on Addison at Center on Halsted, and the University of Illinois at Chicago, The LGBTQ+ Intergenerational Dialogue Project brings together racially, socioeconomically, and gender diverse cohorts of LGBTQ+ college students and older adults (60+) for year-long series of bi-weekly themed dialogues, creative work, and shared dinners.

ABOUT THE PANEL FACILITATOR

Kaitlyn Griffith is a memory worker, and organizer with a deep love for people’s history. As an archivist and instructor, she ensures the preservation and research value of historical material at the Chicago Park District, and teaches a field work class at Dominican University, which connects students to the oral history archive of Free ‘Em All Radio, a joint project between Chairman Fred Hampton Jr., the Black Panther Party Cubs, and The Lady of Rage. In her time volunteering with Gerber/Hart, Griffith has worked on the personal papers of lesbian poet Yvonne Zipter, and a collection from FORTUNE, a print collective assembled by/for queer and trans Asians, among other projects. Storytelling and intergenerational connection hold a special place in her heart, and she is honored to serve as facilitator for this extraordinary event.

Doors for this event are at 6pm and our panel will begin at 7pm. Tickets are priced on a sliding scale of $15, $20 and $25 and proceeds are shared with our panelists, Gerber/Hart and our lounge.
