About Queer Ecologies Pride Fest

Join us in gathering together during Pride Month to connect with nature and celebrate the queerness of the natural world all around us. This gathering will feature a mix of nature connection activities hosted by ecologists, naturalists, artists, and nature enthusiasts, all with an emphasis on queer liberation. A full list of activities and a detailed schedule will be shared in the week before the event.

What is Queer Ecologies?

Queer Ecologies is an emerging field that applies concepts from queer theory to ecology, or the study of the relationships between living beings and our environments. Queer Ecologies is interested in understanding diversity in the natural world, how gender and sexual orientation interact with environmental topics, and how LGBTQ+ people interact with the natural world.

Who is Organizing This?

The Queer Ecologies Pride Fest is affiliated with Queers 4 Climate Justice, a collective that organizes queer climate convenings and creates educational art and media on queer climate topics. It's co-hosted with Atlanta Free School, a grassroots network of free, fun, and friendly classes and educational events across Atlanta. Q4CJ & ATLFS are partnering with other organizations to host specific activities. More details to come.

About Mason Mill Park

Mason Mill Park is a community park in Decatur. This active park offers miles of paved wooded trails for walking and running, a large playground with multiple climbing structures for the kids, a community garden, and Recreation Center. It is home to the Dekalb Tennis Center with tennis and pickleball.

Access Notes:

• Mason Mill Park has free ADA accessible parking and restroom options on site. Many of the paths in the park are also accessible to wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
• This event will be entirely outdoors. Masks will be optional and available on site for those who want one.
• Children are welcome but should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• Dogs are welcome in Mason Mill Park but must be on-leash unless in the designated dog park area.
