About this Event
“Entertaining, informative, and shockingly tender” - RogerEbert.com
“A fascinating sociological examination of the circumstances surrounding a film that inadvertently became a camp classic.” - Hollywood Reporter
PRS proudly welcomes “Queer Diaspora,” the ongoing series programmed and hosted by noted filmmaker Gregorio Davila (L.A. A QUEER HISTORY, UNIDAD: GAY AND LESBIAN LATINOS UNIDOS), for its October outing – SCREAM, QUEEN!: MY NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (2019), documentarians Roman Chimienti and Tyler Jensen’s examination of the notoriously not-so-subtly homoerotic sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street – and star Mark Patton’s journey of reckoning with its effects on his life and career.
Some have called it the “gayest horror movie ever made!” But for Mark Patton, the star of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, it was anything but a dream come true. Detailing the homophobia and AIDS phobia of 1985 as a closeted actor in Hollywood, Mark retraces his missteps on the pathway to stardom. 30 years after its initial release, Patton is hitting the road to set the record straight, at horror conventions across the U.S., about the controversial sequel and the experience that halted his career before it ever began.
Each new city unwraps a chapter from his life that is met with equal parts joyful and bittersweet detail, as Patton confronts the cast and crew (including co-stars Robert Rusler, Kim Myers and Clu Gulager, as well as Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund) for the first time and attempts to make peace with his past as well as embrace his legacy as cinema’s first male scream queen.
Join us for this riveting and moving film which explores the fascinating and rarely explored subgenre of queer-coded horror.
