About this Event
What is a Death Cafe?
A death cafe is a space for people to come together to talk about death and dying in an environment that welcomes these taboo conversations.
Why a Death Cafe?
In western society, death is still a taboo topic. Often, conversations around death and dying are shut down due to discomfort. At a death cafe, these conversations are welcomed and encouraged!
Why a Queer Death Cafe?
Queer and trans people experience grief and death differently. This event allows us to connect over the complexities, nuances, and similarities in life, grief, and death through the lens of queerness.
PLEASE NOTE:
While conversations about death and dying are often shaped by personal experiences of grief, this gathering is not intended to function as a grief support group. Open, thoughtful dialogue is encouraged, and I ask that participants seek dedicated support spaces if they are in need of focused emotional care during this time.
This event is group led, meaning that there is no 'leader' or facilitator. While I (@francesca.masellis) provide the space and planning, the topics are determined by the collective!
This is a free community event, but donations are welcome to cover the cost of the rental space. Donations can be made in cash at the event, or e-transfered to [email protected].
Any donation receieved after the rental costs have been covered will be donated back to Queer Community Deathcare (https://queercommunitydeathcare.ca)!
