About this Event
Description:
The Medicine Fair is a love offering to queer and trans affirming traditional healers &providers. HEAL plus NM is the main sponsor and will be presenting Affirming & Compassionate Provider Awards to local providers who have gone above and beyond to support their queer and trans patients.
It will be an opportunity to
-Heal- receive a limpia (energetic cleansing) bodywork or acupuncture from trans, two spirit & affirming medicine people
-Meet other affirming providers.
-Learn about local resources.
-Connect with community members & providers
-Eat free lunch.
-Envision the future ecosystem of care in our community.
As we bend and sway with this new political climate, we must find creative ways to connect, heal and adapt to the new restrictions, and change in resources to build a supportive network of compassionate affirming care.
If you would like to participate as
- A sponsor (limited tabling available) we are asking for a $50-$250 donation.
- A healer/ bodyworker offering your skills (we may have a stipend for you, depending on how many applications we receive)
- Or a supporting provider,
please follow the link to fill out the form and apply as a sponsor, healer, or affirming provider by Oct 7th. - https://bit.ly/qtmedicinefairapplication
If you would like to volunteer, please follow the link and fill out the volunteer form by Oct 12th. - https://bit.ly/qtvolunteerapp
About Health Equity Alliance of LGBTQ+ New Mexicans (HEAL Plus NM):
We are queer and trans+ New Mexicans united in our vision for liberation. We believe that all people have a right to live long, healthy lives. HEAL Plus NM has two arms that work for justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual, two-spirit, transgender, gender non-conforming, queer, intersex, asexual, pansexual, and questioning (LGBTQIA2s+) people. One arm of our organization works by and for our LGBTQIA2S+ community to build health resources, increase queer power through creative collaboration, and uplift the New Mexican culture that treasures our queer and trans+ siblings. The other arm works to bring queer and trans voices to change the environments that we live in. By centering LGBTQIA2S+ people with an intersectional approach produces community-sourced collective solutions that serve all people.
We gather our communities for connection and healing. We create resources such as SQUINCH4GSA's and SQUINCH4Families, and partner with healthcare providers in our queer-and trans-affirming directory, Bright Spaces, Welcome Places.
We work with providers and health systems to increase access to healthcare, health knowledge, and express a culture that affirms queer and trans+ lives. We have gathered since 2003, and we know that community connection and freedom from violence are essential to create health equity for our people.
