Dates: Monday June 27th- Saturday, July 9th, 2022 (arrive on the 26th, depart on the 10th.)
Quartet Fest West takes place on the beautiful campus of the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. We are grateful to play and work on the territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose traditional relationship to the land continues to this day.
Open to individual instruments (violin, viola, cello, piano, clarinet) and pre-formed groups (string quartets, string trios, piano quartets, guitar quartets, saxophone quartets, woodwind quintets, brass quintets).
Students enjoy performing and listening to masterclasses and concerts in the gorgeous acoustics of the Philip T Young Recital Hall.
Daily coachings with members of the Lafayette String Quartet, Skyros Quartet and guest artists; cellist Beth Root Sandvoss, and violist Theresa Plotnick.
Additional masterclasses in body and mental awareness, instrument care and simple ways to optimally record yourself and your friends.
Special concerts and events planned around the two national holidays-Canada’s on July 1 and the United States on July 4.
Tuition: $900 Canadian (scholarships available*)
QFW String Quartet Competition: Open to all students in a pre-formed string quartet. Each member of the quartet submits an application. Only ONE member of the group needs to submit the recordings. Please include two complete, contrasting movements from two different periods or composers.
First prize: Full tuition scholarship (value $3600)
Second prize: Half tuition scholarship (value $1800)
