In this fast-paced comedy, a 10th anniversary party for the Deputy Mayor of New York quickly spirals into chaos when the host is found shot (just a flesh wound...or is it?), the hostess is missing, and guests must frantically cover up the truth while their own secrets, injuries, and lies unravel.
Full of rapid-fire dialogue, physical comedy, mistaken assumptions, and classic Neil Simon wit, this is a fun night in the theatre for everyone.
We are casting five men and five women (ages roughly 30s-50s, with some flexibility). All characters are affluent, sophisticated New Yorkers attending a formal dinner party. Strong comedic timing, vocal energy and physicality are required.
Character Breakdown
(Ages are approximate and flexible)
Ken Gorman (Male, 40-50): A well-to-do lawyer trying to take charge. Temporarily loses his hearing after a shotgun mishap. Needs good comedic delivery and the ability to play 'deaf' for short periods
Chris Gorman (Female, mid 30s-40s): Ken's elegant lawyer wife. Neurotic, easily flustered, recently quit smoking (and starts again). Involves some physical comedy and playing a bit "tipsy" when she has too many cocktails.
Lenny Ganz (Male, late 30s-40s): A sarcastic accountant with a whiplash injury from a car accident. Loud, outspoken, and hilarious. Has a long, desperate monologue near the end.
Claire Ganz (Female, late 30s-40s): Lenny's sharp-tongued wife. Gossipy, concerned with appearances. Starts the show with a swollen lip. Witty and amused by the chaos.
Ernie Cusack (Male, 45-55): A psychiatrist married to Cookie. Calm, good-natured but gets increasingly frazzled. Acquires a burn injury in the course of the show.
Cookie Cusack (Female, 40-50) Ernie's wife and a TV chef. Suffers from a bad back and tries to play the evening's chef, despite the mayhem. A little eccentric, somewhat overwhelmed, but also energetic and sweet.
Glenn Cooper (Male, 35-45): A lawyer and politician. Straight-laced, but unravels. Having marital issues with his wife. Gets knocked around a bit as the show unfolds.
Cassie Cooper (Female, 35-45): Glenn's wife. Into crystals and New Age ideas. Dramatic and sharp-tongued, with a strong comedic presence.
Officer Ben Welch (Male, 40-55): A Local police officer who arrives to investigate. No-nonsense, but gets drawn into the absurdity.
Officer Pudney (Female, 40-55): Welch's partner, the rookie cop. Mostly a "strong but silent type". Very little dialogue, but a presence. Her reactions add to the comedy through deadpan silence.
Audition Details
Auditions are Sunday June 7th and Monday June 8th from 7-10
Callbacks, if needed, will be Thursday June 11 starting at 7pm.
Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will take place at the QP Playhouse, 55 Hopkins Street, Reading, MA
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Please wear clothing you can move in, as some physicality will be called for.

Please bring your personal calendar for any potential conflicts. Actors must be available every night of tech week and for all performances.
Rehearsals will begin in August, and will be Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays
