Come try some old beer and old cheese! Well, appropriately aged beer and cheese. We have managed to collect some kegs of our favourite Belgian brewed Quads and have even thrown on our favourite Australian Quad. The Belgian Quadrupel has origins deep within the Trappist brewing tradition. The style can be traced back to the 1600s when the Trappist Monks decided to start selling their brews to the public. While the monks honed their beer making skills over centuries, they didn’t work too much on naming conventions with each style simply named after the amount of malt used to brew. The Quadrupel is the big one. Using the most malt and thereby producing the booziest, richest brew.
Although opinions are divided regarding the Quadrupel as a beer style, generally they are big, boozy and dark. Quads often impart a spicy ripe fruit flavour with an ABV of 9% to 14%. The high ABV and robust flavours lend this beer well to the ageing process. Saint Bernardus ABT 12 is not only considered one of the best examples of the style, but one of the best beers in the World. Probably a good reason to have it on tap! As well as ABT 12 on tap, we have bottles of ABT from 2012, 2014 and the 2023 Saint Bernardus Christmas Ale.
Saint Bernardus can’t hog all the Quad limelight! To lend a little variety to our Quad party, we will also be pouring Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple, La Trappe Quadrupel and representing Australia, Madocke Quadrupel. To accompany your night of quads, Sacch kitchen has raided the cheese cave. We reckon cheese and beer are pretty much the perfect combination. Join in the fun with curated paddles and cheese plates available all night.
