Third session in the QTIBPoC Grounding series, a series of four free workshops for queer, trans, Indigenous, Bla(c)k and people of colour.
About this Event

The QTIBPoC Grounding Workshops are a series of free workshop events for LGBTQIASB+ Indigenous, Bla(c)k and People of Colour, hosted by the QTIBPoC Program at Switchboard Victoria. Each workshop will be guided by a different QTIBPoC facilitator who will invite participants to reconnect to the self in space and time through a range of expressions and practices. All workshops link back to the theme of grounding.

About the facilitator: Tejo (he/him) is a musician and creative facilitator with a focus on diasporic communities and individual experiences of self-worth and self-love. In 2024, he will complete his studies in Music Therapy and hopes to continue working with marginalised communities in improving access to creative healing using music, breath, yoga, and visual arts.

About the workshop: Tejo's workshop will focus on attaining a connection to the self, using receptive and relaxing methods of music therapy and breath work. You will be guided by music on a journey toward inward acceptance and affirmation.

Please note: these workshops are not designed as a substitute for therapy, counselling or professional mental health care services. If you need someone to talk to, or would like to be linked in with these supports, please contact our Rainbow Door helpline or QLife. By registering and agreeing to participate in this workshop, you acknowledge and understand the above considerations.

Acknowledgement: Switchboard Victoria's home office is on the unceded lands of the Yaluk-ut Weelam clan of the Boon Wurrung peoples. We pay our respects to all Elders of yesterday and today and extend those respects to all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples across this country we know as Australia. We appreciate Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples as diverse individuals with an ongoing connection to Country, and waters – a custodial right and responsibility that was stolen and remains unceded. We acknowledge the strength of all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly Brotherboys and Sistergirls, and those who identify as part of LGBTQIA+ communities. We recognise that First Nations peoples have always had rich, varied understandings and practices concerning sex, sexuality and gender diversity; colonial occupation introduced homophobia and transphobia to a culture that embraces inclusivity. Our work at Switchboard Victoria takes place locally and nationally on what always was, always will be Aboriginal lands.
