Course Duration: The course runs for 5 days over 2 weeks. 9.30 AM - 5.00 PM each day.
Course Overview:
Our Manual Handling Instructor QQI Level 6 course gives participants the know-how, skillfulness, and self-reliance to manage and deliver Manual Handling training. This Manual Handling Instructor course is designed to give you the skills for you to complete Manual Handling Risk Assessments and provide training as required by “Part 4, Chapter 2, of the General Application Regulations 2007, Manual Handling of Loads”, which states that staff engaging in manual handling actions must have training in the safe manual handling of loads.
Day 1 - Covers Legislation for health and safety, particularly manual handling. The learner will gain a detailed knowledge of Acts, Regulations, insurance, courts, employers, and employees' legal responsibilities.
Day 2 - Covers the risk assessment process, injuries, and anatomy. Learners will be able to conduct detailed manual handling risk assessments and will be able to recommend control measures that will cut the risk of manual handling injuries. They will also gain a good knowledge of anatomy and how injuries occur.
Day 3 - Covers training skills. Learners will gain practical knowledge of the skills required to successfully deliver a manual handling training course. Learners will also cover the basics of safe lifting techniques.
Day 4 - Full day on lifting techniques. Learners will be able to lift a range of different loads including awkward loads, fluid loads, team lifts, pushing, and pulling. Please note Day 4 will be delivered onsite, at our premises, as face-to-face training on the public course.
Day 5 - The day will commence with a review of the entire course content. Each participant will be required to give a 10-minute presentation on a specific topic covered in the manual handling course. Furthermore, they will need to complete a two-hour exam consisting of 20 questions.
Additional Learning: Participants will independently undertake a manual handling risk assessment project, as part of self-directed learning, and submit it within a two-week timeframe.
