Q-PROM IS AN ALCOHOL AND SUBSTANCE FREE EVENT

Q-Prom is the Sacramento LGBT Community Center’s FREE annual prom created specifically for LGBTQ+ and allied youth ages 13–20. The event gives young people the opportunity to experience all the fun, excitement, and tradition of prom in an environment where they are encouraged to show up authentically and celebrate who they are.

For many LGBTQ+ young people, traditional school dances may not always feel welcoming or accessible. Fear of bullying, harassment, judgment, or simply not feeling comfortable expressing their identity can keep youth from participating in these milestone experiences. Q-Prom was created to offer an affirming alternative—a night centered on belonging, self-expression, friendship, and queer joy.

Hosted by the Sacramento LGBT Community Center as part of its broader youth programming, Q-Prom is free to attend and alcohol- and substance-free. Each year features a new theme and transforms the traditional prom experience into something uniquely Q-Prom, with music, dancing, activities, entertainment, and plenty of opportunities for youth to dress up and express themselves however feels right to them.

Q-Prom is about giving LGBTQ+ youth something every young person deserves: the chance to make memories, celebrate with their friends, and experience a milestone moment without having to hide any part of who they are.

This year we are pleased to partner with Ace of Spades, providing the space for Q-Prom and giving youth access to one of Sacramento's most popular music venues. A live DJ, entertainment, and refreshments will be available for attendees!

Attire: Prom wear, camp wear, halloween costumes, or whatever makes you feel like YOU!

Volunteers: Chaperones are encouraged to vounteer; please email [email protected] to learn how to sign-up. Must be 21+ and complete a screening by the Sacramento LGBT Community Center. All volunteers must be screened by our process, including parents, guardians, and teachers. Please plan accordingly, and sign-up now to complete the volunteer application & screening well before the event. (Background checks can take up to 2 weeks)
