Püha Sõprus: "21 grammi" / "21 Grams" (ENG-friendly)

Septembri Püha Sõpruse programm on pühendatud kolmele amigole ehk kolmele selle sajandi Hollywoodi enim mõjutanud Mehhiko režissöörile Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritule, Guillermo del Torole ja Alfonso Cuarónile. Alustame Iñarritu läbilöögifilmist Hollywoodis "21 grammi" Sean Penni, Naomi Wattsi ja Benicio del Toroga peaosades.
Iñarritu teine täispikk mängufilm on edasiarendus Sõpruses möödunud detsembris näidatud debüütfilmist "Amores perros". Kuigi ka siin segunevad kolme inimese elud pärast autoõnnetust ning jälle on stsenarist Guillermo Arriaga ja operaator Rodrigo Prieto, siis on tegemist palju enamaga kui lihtsalt sama loo ingliskeelsete-staaridega-versiooniga. See on sobiv film kõigile neile, kes naudivad käänulisi narratiive ja vihjetele üles ehitatud kinematograafilist loojutustamist. Erinevatest saatustest pannakse kokku terviklikult kompleksne ja üdini inimlik empaatiline pusle, mis näitab kuivõrd suurt rolli meie elus mängivad juhuslikud kohtumised.
Eelmise filmi Mexico City on siin asendunud Memphisega USA keskosas ning operaator Prieto viib vaataja meisterlikult selle linna karmi tegelikkuse keskele, näidates traagilise liiklussurma mõju kõigi osaliste jaoks. See on autoühiskonna portree, mis näitab koduseinte ja haiglapalatite vahele jõudvat ilustamata tegelikkust. Suurepärased rollid teevad südamesiirdamist ootavat teadlast Pauli kehastav kolme Oscari laureaat Sean Penn, elus kannapöörde teinud pereema Cristinat kehastav kahe Oscari nominent Naomi Watts ning jumala leidnud temperamentne eksvang Jack, keda kehastab ühe Oscari laureaat Benicio del Toro. Kõik näitlejad said oma osatäitmise eest 2003 Veneetsia filmifestivalil ka auhinnad ning Watts nomineeriti parima naispeaosa Oscarile ja del Toro parima meeskõrvalosa Oscarile.

Püha Sõprus in September is dedicated to the 'Three amigos' of Hollywood as they call themselves: Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu, Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón. We will start our journey with Iñarritu's breakthrough film in Hollywood "21 Grams" starring Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio del Toro.
In 21 Grams, Gonzalez-Iñarittu’s second feature, we see the story of three people whose lives and fate come together in a car crash. In the brilliant narrative structure, present and past become intertwined. This background is reminiscent of Gonzalez Iñarittu’s very successful début Amores perros, but 21 Grams is much more than a repeat exercise with a cast of Hollywood stars. The film is structured as a complex puzzle in time and space; the pieces of this fascinating puzzle are cleverly revealed one by one to the viewer. The film style is fluent yet harsh and realistic, much hand held. Iñarittu worked largely with the same people as Amores perros, for instance scriptwriter Arriaga and cameraman Prieto. For the characters in 21 Grams, death has a truly catalytic influence on life. University lecturer Paul (Sean Penn) is suffering from a fatal heart disease and is on the waiting list for a transplant; Christina (Naomi Watts) is a former party type and drug addict who now leads a calm life with husband and children; and finally there is Jack (Benicio del Toro), a hot tempered ex-convict who seeks redemption in religion. None of the characters are simply good or bad, they are primarily very human. The actors were able to use this script to get the best out of themselves and they all excelled: at the Venice Festival, all three of them won prizes.
21 Grams will be screened in English, with Estonian subtitles.
