Pylon Reenactment Society
It's easier to explain what Pylon Reenactment Society isn’t than what it actually is. It’s not a continuation or a reunion, because Vanessa is the only member in both groups. It’s neither a tribute act nor a cover band, although they do perform Pylon songs. Led by Vanessa Briscoe Hay of the legendary post-punk band Pylon, Pylon Reenactment Society also features Jason NeSmith and Kay Stanton (Supercluster, Casper & The Cookies) and Gregory Sanders (Casper & The Cookies). Their debut album 'Magnet Factory’ and live performances have been met with critical acclaim. Uncut Magazine awarded the album an 8/10 rating, saying “Magnet Factory finds the quartet in scintillating form, shifting smartly between angular noise-pop and nervy punk-funk, topped with Hay’s spiky vocals… a terrific debut from American post-punk veterans.” The Associated Press said, “...Briscoe Hay remains a distinctive, boundary-defying songwriter… Amid the algorithm-driven din that now fills earbuds, ‘Magnet Factory’ sounds as fresh as Pylon first did…the band is an irresistible blend of simplicity and synchronicity, the music both edgy and therapeutic.” Rolling Stone Magazine noted of their performance at SXSW 2024 “…Pylon Reenactment Society dodges nostalgia partially because Pylon was hardwired for the future…”
Pylon Reenactment Society continue to support the release of ‘Magnet Factory’ by performing select U.S. dates. Currently they are working on new material. Stay in the loop by visiting www.pylonreenactmentsociety.com
It's Snakes
Starting in early 2015, singer Hope Nicholls took tentative steps in the daunting shoes of Phil Collins and Levon Helms, attempting to keep the beat on drums while crooning. The former vocalist for 80’s college rock main-stays Fetchin Bones, 90’s pissed-off Sugarsmack and 2000’s secret Snagglepuss hit the skins with a vengeance and zero shites given. Aaron Pitkin added his signature riffage: It’s Snakes marked his return to guitar, a first since the ‘Bones epoch. Long time collaborator Darrin Gray (bass) and fellow member of Snagglepuss coached Nicholls on drumming and believed it just might work. Guitarist Greg Walsh believed as well and the dream was real.
Nicholls took the name It’s Snakes from a Lynda Barry comic strip that featured a nonchalant retail encounter with Medusa, legendary snake goddess and first female super villain.
Their eponymous first album was recorded over hot dogs and beers, July 4th weekend 2016, in Nashville’s legendary Sound Emporium Studio with Chris Shinn as producer. It’s Snakes II was released in summer of 2018, also recorded by Mr. Shinn. 2020 rolled around and the Snakes sent the Don Dixon recorded and produced LX into the universe just in time for the pandemic times! All three records show a range of influences and style that can that can be traced through decades of adoration of all genres, trash and treasure alike, a little Rolling Stones, a little Pylon, a little James Brown, a lot all their own.
