Join writer and educator Christian Winn for a 2-day writing workshop at the historic and storied Old Idaho Penitentiary. Writers will create original works of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction based on prompts inspired by the histories, the characters, the stories, and the grounds of the Old Idaho Pen.
The 2-day workshop runs from 10am - 1pm Saturday and Sunday 3/2-3/3. A comprehensive tour of the Old Pen will be a part of the Saturday programming, and will help guide and inform writers' works throughout the weekend.
Writers of all levels are welcome, and simply need to arrive with curiosity, a desire to build compelling prose, stories, and poetry, and a love of language and history. Writers should arrive with your tools of choice - notebooks, pen/pencils, tablets, Laptops, etc.
Writers will work on character development, plot movement, scene setting, sensory details and specifics, heart, structure, cadence, and more. Each writer will emerge from the workshop with a number of new pieces of writing, and will receive both individual and group feedback from Christian and their peers throughout the weekend.
Writers will get the opportunity to read from their original work each day, as well as during a post-workshop reading event at The Old Pen, or the nearby Bishops' House.
Workshop Fee is $60, which includes a 2-day entry to the Old Pen, a comprehensive walking tour of the grounds, detailed instruction from Christian Winn, bevs & bites, and the chance to engage your literary imaginations within an open and thoughtful group of fellow writers.

This workshop is capped at 12 writers.
