Join Palmetto Woodturners for a hands-on "learn to turn" session
at Mann Tool and Supply. Participants will learn how to turn a
pen from Purple Heart wood, a wood chosen for its symbolic connection to military service. Finished pens will be sent to deployed soldiers along with a handwritten thank-you note. ABOUT THIS PROJECT: This project began with Cindy McLafferty, a military wife of more than 30 years, who has been building and shipping care packages to service members for more than two decades.
After taking a woodworking class in 2007, Cindy began adding handmade pens to the packages.
"My husband was on his last deployment before retiring,
and I wanted to learn something we could do together
when he got home," Mclafferty said.
“I chose Purple Heart Pens because, to me, they all earned a
Purple Heart !!!”
