Purple Heart Day Ceremony — "Sacred Honor, Living Legacy"
Join us at the Shrine of Memory at the Virginia War Memorial on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM as we honor Virginia's Purple Heart recipients — the men and women who bore the cost of freedom in their own blood.
This year's ceremony marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. With the theme "Sacred Honor, Living Legacy," we remember that honor is not only preserved — it is actively passed on to the next generation.
The ceremony includes remarks fromBen King, Virginia Department Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart; a reading from the Declaration of Independence; recognition of Purple Heart recipients in attendance; and the Purple Heart Coin Presentation, where recipients pass commemorative coins to the next generation.
Free and open to the public. Purple Heart recipients, veterans, families, and community members are all encouraged to attend.
