Trumpeter & singer Michael Varekamp is ten years old when he finds a record in his father's record cabinet: The Town Hall Concert by Louis Armstrong. He puts it on and is immediately sold. Ten years later he travels the world as a jazz trumpeter and Louis Armstrong connoisseur. “A dazzling lexicon of jazz trumpet playing..........” -The Herald Tribune “An astonishing sound and beautiful phrasing…” -Le Monde “Satchmo’s nieuwe geluid…” –Het Parool “Louis Armstrong herleeft in trompetspel Varekamp…” –NRC Together with pianist Harry Kanters, he decides to form a band that takes a classical approach to the music of Louis: the 'Louis Armstrong Celebration Band'. The band plays in the classic 'All Star' line-up of Louis and focuses on the repertoire that Uncle Satchmo played in the 1940s and 1950s. The audience is taken by this unique 'All Star' company on a journey through time when jazz invariably had a high entertainment value. The music is alive and swinging and makes the character of Louis almost tangible. The humorous presentation and singing make attending a concert a real party!
